As discussed at the Library Consultative Group meeting of 21 October, loan periods have recently been reviewed by Lending and Circulation Librarian Claire Lewis. Some changes have been made as a result.
From 1 January 2010, Staff and Postgraduates will have books, theses and posters issued for 4 weeks and serials issued for 7 days.
3 renewals will be available before an item must be returned to the Library.
For Undergraduates, books, theses and poster loans will still remain at 2 weeks, but serials will now be issued for 3 days.
2 renewals will be available before an item must be returned to the Library.
Many more journal articles are now available electronically, so journals from the print collection can normally be issued for longer without causing inconvenience to other users. An added advantage is that there will no longer be a requirement to renew a journal if an undergraduate borrows it on a Friday and is not coming to the Library in the weekend.
Library staff appreciate suggestions received from patrons about the possibility of changes to the length of time that certain materials could be borrowed. These suggestions were considered as part of the review, and most are incorporated in the revised loan periods above.
For more information about loan periods please consult the Library Regulations and Rules.
