Resources

The Library Catalogue

The Library Catalogue contains records of all items held in the Library. Search it to find out what books, serials (i.e. magazines, journals) and other items the Library holds.
While the catalogue indicates if we hold a particular serial title, it doesn't record details of the actual articles in our serials.

To find specific articles you can search the Library databases.

Loans
Books, multimedia, theses and serials may be borrowed by all Lincoln University distance students located in New Zealand. The standard loan periods for distance students are:

  • 3 weeks for books and theses
  • 7 days for multimedia and serials.
This includes delivery and return time. We will send items to you by courier post.

Returning items

To return items by mail, turn the courier bag inside out and use the FreePost address label enclosed with the item. You should also include the date you post the item back.

Fines will be charged for overdue items but the postal date will help us assess how long it has been in the post.

There is no charge for the distance loan service - apart from any overdue fines you might incur!

Renewals
You can renew items on loan to you as long as no one else has requested to borrow the item. You cannot renew overdue items. You can renew loans yourself by logging in to My Details and following the on screen instructions, or you can ask the Library staff to renew an item for you.

Library Databases
Use the library databases to find articles on your topic. "Full-text" databases provide the complete article, while "bibliographic" databases provide details of where relevant articles can be found.

Most of the Library databases can be accessed from off campus using an Internet connected computer. See the access to databases page for details of those that Lincoln University students can have passworded access to, plus other useful databases that any Internet user can use.

If you are unsure of which databases to search to find articles on your specific topic, check out the Subject Guides on the Library Web. These include a list of the best databases to use for each subject.

User guides, providing individual database information and searching tips, are available for some Library databases.

Photocopies
Within the provisions of the Copyright Act 1994 you can request photocopies of serial articles or any one chapter from a book, held by the Library.

The marjority of articles are sent electronically, no charge.

Paper copies are sent by FastPost at a cost of 20 cents per page. We will send you notification of the amount owing with the photocopies.

Borrowing from other University Libraries

University staff and students are able to borrow in person from the libraries of AUT, Massey, Waikato, Victoria and Otago universities. This is the University Library Aotearoa New Zealand (ULANZ) reciprocal borrowing scheme.

Presentation of your student/staff ID card is required for borrower registration. Undergraduate level borrowing privileges apply to all users under this scheme.

Document Delivery

The distance document delivery service is available to postgraduate students. If the article or book chapter you want is not held by Lincoln, we may be able to obtain a photocopy from another library.

There is a charge of $4 per item supplied from within NZ but your first 10 domestic interloans are free. There is a charge of $20 for interloan items obtained from overseas. For more information about interloan/document delivery, or to make a request, send an email to libdist@lincoln.ac.nz
