Printing and Copying

Available Machines

In the Library there are 9 multifunctional devices (MFDs) that allow Library users to copy, print and scan material.

There are two clusters of MFDs on level 0 - one colour and one B&W MFD can be found in the multimedia area, and there is an area in the iZone which contains two fast and one standard speed B&W MFD.
There are two MFDs on level 1 - one colour by the Collection Enquiries Desk, and one B&W in the level 1 computer suite.
There are two devices on level 2 - one B&W in the computer suite and one B&W by room 204.
As well, there is the microform reader/scanner in the newspaper area and two stand alone scanners in the iZone.

Wireless laptop users can NOT print using the Library MFDs.

Costs

There is a 1c reduction for any 2-sided (duplex) printing. i.e. 2 single sided A4 B&W would be 20c but if double-sided onto one page would be 18c.

Your account needs to have money in it before you can begin to copy or print.

Adding Money/Credit

Copying and printing money is all held in the same account. This account must be in credit before you can copy or print.

Top up your print/copy account by EFTPOS or credit card at the Library Service Desk.

The LINC (Bookshop) can accept print/copy credit payment by cash or EFTPOS.

The revaluation machine (located in the printer lobby of the Landscape building) only accepts notes and cannot provide change.

Follow-me Printing

The way that you access any items that you print...

All machines are operated by swiping the Lincoln University ID card over the card reader on the MFD.
Follow-me print queues allow staff and students to print securely to any MFD on campus. This means that your printing will wait in a network queue until you swipe your card at the machine where you want to release it. You release the print job from any device that is convenient.

The advantages of this are:

  • you don't have someone else remove your print job,
  • you confirm that the device is working before you start the job,
  • you can pick up all your print jobs at once.

The disadvantages are that:

  • you have to wait for the job to print once you get to the machine
  • you always have to remember your card.

Duplexing

All Library MFDs default to duplex (double siding). This is cheaper and saves paper. To change back to single sided, go to properties then finishing for the appropriate follow-me queue. If this doesn't work, change the settings in both B&W and colour queues, as there has been a problem.

Colour

Two Library MFDs will copy, print and scan in colour. Select the correct follow-me queue, then the machine will detect the presence of colour, will print in colour and charge accordingly. Colour copying is more expensive. (see above).

You do not HAVE to print in colour just because there is colour in the document.

Overhead Transparencies for Presentations

Staff at the Service Desk sell blank overhead transparencies at 50c each. You can use any Library MFD with a bypass tray to print your information onto these.

When printing/copying OTs it is best not to use the MFDs in the iZone, as these are often busy with larger print jobs and queues may form.

Ask for help at the Service Desk if you are not sure how to use the bypass tray.

Problems

Before swiping your card ...

Before swiping your card at any MFD, check for a red flashing light on the front right hand side of the MFD. A red flashing light indicates that the MFD has run out of paper or has suffered a paper jam.

Don't swipe your card to release a job if the MFD has run out of paper or has a paper jam. If you have swiped your card and nothing happens, don't swipe again at another MFD as it will have no effect - contact staff as soon as possible.

Reporting problems ...

Report problems to the Service Desk or iZone Help Desk. If you are in an upstairs computer suite, you can phone staff at these desks using the numbers listed beside the phone.

If you are not in the Library, report MFD problems to the IT Service Desk by email - ithelp@lincoln.ac.nz

Forgotten your ID card?

Copy your document to your pen-drive and take to the LINC. (Hours: 8.30 am - 4.30 pm Monday - Friday). Staff there will print the material and charge you the cost directly.

Visitors to the Library

Visitors can copy, but not print, as printing is authorised on the Lincoln University network by a Lincoln University user name. However, you can email to yourself, or copy the data to a pen-drive.

Visitor copy cards are available for purchase ($5 for the card, then add credit for copying) from the Service Desk.

Recycled Paper

The Library has ceased to supply MFDs with recycled paper due to cost and budget constraints. We hope that this service will be resumed once a new contract for the University's paper supplies has been concluded.

Boxes and bins are provided for Library users to recycle unwanted paper. Please place paper neatly into these containers.
